Dominique Monami
About me

A CAREER BUILT ON EXPERIENCE AND PASSION

I spent ten years on the professional tour learning what is really at stake on match point. What allows you to hold up under pressure, bounce back after a setback and keep moving forward. I became the first Belgian woman to break into the world Top 10 and I won an Olympic medal.

When I left the tour, another kind of learning began: leading a team and a tournament, starting my own business and continuing to train — without interruption for more than twenty years.

Today, I am a speaker, coach and human performance expert. I turn the lessons of elite sport into concrete levers that individuals and teams can use in their daily work.

Tennis career

From 1991 to 2000, I competed on the professional tour. The first Belgian woman to break into the world Top 10, I reached No. 9, won four WTA titles and played in twelve finals. I also reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the Masters in New York.

In 2000, I won the bronze medal in doubles at the Sydney Olympic Games with Els Callens. I also represented Belgium in the Fed Cup for ten years. In 1998, I was named Belgian Sportswoman and Belgian Sports Personality of the Year.

One good match doesn’t make a career. What counts is the level you can sustain, season after season.

Career change
2004

Career change

From sport to business.

My career change began with a first keynote, followed by my first training sessions at Mentally Fit with the “Corporate Athlete” program. Its principle: drawing on your resources in business just as in sport, through three inseparable dimensions — mental, emotional and physical.

That is where I began translating the lessons of elite sport into professional reality. And since 2004, I have never stopped learning.

Leadership & coaching
2007

Leadership & coaching

Leading, coaching and passing it on.

From 2007 to 2016, I ran the Ethias Trophy, an ATP Challenger twice voted the best tournament in the world in its category. It meant leading a team, convincing partners and maintaining a constant relationship with the ATP.

From 2011 to 2013, I also ran the WTA Brussels Open, a tournament on the women's world tour that welcomed the world No. 1.

As captain of the Belgian Fed Cup team — now the Billie Jean King Cup —, I helped bring Belgium back among the eight best teams in the world within two years. That is where I learned what no tournament had ever taught me: how to make a team win without playing the matches myself.

I also pass on this experience. For three years I taught in ICHEC's corporate coaching program, and I have spoken at Vlerick Business School, Solvay Brussels School, to INSEAD alumni, at Radboud University and in Eurapco's leadership program.

Performance expert
Today

Performance expert

Making human performance my profession.

Today, I support individuals, teams and organizations through keynotes, workshops and coaching. I am a professional coach certified by Linkup Coaching in Paris, a team coach, a mental coach and a career coach.

I am also the author of Tout est dans le caractère (Lannoo, 2007) and Boostez votre énergie ! (Kennes, 2022).

And I never left sport behind. I chose to give back what it gave me by serving as vice-president of the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee (BOIC), as a board member of the LHF and as co-founder of the non-profit Athlete360, which supports athletes in their career transition. This commitment continues through other projects, both in sport and beyond.

My vision & my approach

I believe in a deeply human kind of performance: not about always doing more, but about drawing on the right energy, at the right moment, to move forward with clarity and go the distance.

Performance doesn't happen by chance. It's built through action, practice, learning and constant improvement.

What works in sport also applies to the business world.

It is this conviction that guides each of the principles below.

Sport has been my ground for learning and experimenting. There I went through pressure, doubt, failure, pushing my limits and rebuilding. Today, I draw on that experience to help you tackle your own challenges.

The way we act, decide and interact depends directly on our physical, mental and emotional energy. When one dimension weakens, the whole balance is affected. Learning to understand, preserve and draw on your energy profoundly changes the way you perform.

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Every approach is tailored to your specific challenges, your needs and the realities of your everyday work.

I ask questions, challenge your ideas and share my observations. My role is to help you find your own answers and put them into action.

Perfection holds us back. Striving for excellence moves us forward.

I give my best and encourage you to do the same. Together, we move forward, adapt, learn and grow, without the pressure of having to get everything right.

An intervention should never be just a good moment. It should leave a mark, spark movement and keep producing its effects long after we meet. That is where real change begins.

An ecosystem of experts: I don't work alone

I’m surrounded by a network of experts and coaches I know personally and work closely with. Some share my areas of focus, bringing their own perspectives and experiences. Others offer complementary expertise that enriches what I do.

I have had the pleasure of working with Dominique Monami on several occasions, for talks on a wide range of themes: the champion mindset, resilience, the ability to question yourself, the balance between body and mind, sources of energy… and each time in front of a different audience.

Beyond her complete mastery of these subjects, it is her human quality that leaves a lasting impression. Dominique is exceptionally warm and kind, always available and able to adapt to any situation. She shares her experience with as much enjoyment as professionalism, and turns her journey into a genuine source of inspiration for those who listen to her.
